REDEFINING ALLURE: UMA INTIMATES PROVES SUSTAINABILITY IS THE NEW SEXY

By: Zibah Olabode

The sustainable lingerie industry is a discreet yet indispensable consideration for eco-conscious consumers. Undergarments are worn every day and are intimately connected to personal expression and well-being. Despite its importance, sustainable lingerie represents a mere 2.4% of the sustainable fashion market, due in large part to a lack of brands offering options that seamlessly blend ethics and allure.

Recognizing this under-served niche, Marie Gutierrez Hurtado established UMA INTIMATES, an eco-sensual lingerie brand manufactured ethically in Barcelona.

UMA INTIMATES stands out with its innovative, sensorial packaging that elevates the unboxing experience and offers a second life as a vegan leather bag. The lingerie itself is crafted from a blend of Tencel, eucalyptus pulp and recycled polyamide lace, ensuring both luxury and sustainability.

Hurtado’s mission is to empower women by fostering a sense of sensuality without compromising their ethical values, comfort, or the well-being of people or the planet. UMA’s vision is to contribute to a more humane society, where human beings and Mother Nature are central to the economy and the company leverages its social and economic influence to support and implement impactful social and environmental projects.

UMA INTIMATES is produced in a small workshop in Barcelona, allowing Hurtado to be involved in every step of the process. Regular visits and close oversight of working conditions ensure that workers are treated with dignity and respect, operating in a safe and fair environment.

UMA INTIMATES prides itself on being a vegan brand, with all materials free from animal products. The Tencel Lyocell fabric, derived from sustainably managed eucalyptus plantations, provides antibacterial and breathable properties while achieving a second-skin effect thanks to its elasticity and soft touch. The high-quality, recycled polyamide lace, certified by the Global Recycled Standard, guarantees responsible manufacturing under strict social and environmental criteria while ensuring transparency and traceability.

The brand’s commitment to a circular economy extends to its innovative packaging. Infused with Ylang Ylang essential oil, the eco-designed packaging exudes a revitalizing, energizing fragrance. A feminine infusion of Mediterranean herbs further elevates the unboxing experience. By thoughtfully incorporating these elements, UMA INTIMATES demonstrates a dedication to both sustainability and sensory indulgence.
