CLASS ACT: TARGET ANNOUNCES DENIM TAKE BACK EVENT, A CIRCULAR SPIN ON BACK-TO-SCHOOL SHOPPING

It is a universal consensus that jeans are always a good idea! They look and feel great, go well with just about anything, and with a limitless assortment of styles, cuts, and colors readily available, anyone can find their perfect fit. Convenient, cool, relaxed, reliable – what more could one ask for? Denim is essentially your fashion BFF.

The global denim market industry is thriving, with expectations to reach nearly $150 billion by 2032. The popularity of casual, affordable jeans is a major factor, and brands are starting to focus on sustainability. Denim is everywhere, but it comes at a hefty environmental cost, producing a single pair of jeans uses around 2,900 liters of water and countless chemicals. On an international scale, this leads to serious environmental issues, including polluted water and harmful emissions. The familiar indigo dye used also contributes to water pollution, and synthetic dyes only add to the problem. Despite these challenges, efforts to make denim more eco-friendly are underway with many trusted brands pledging to up their sustainable practices.

With nearly two thousand stores, popular US retailer, Target Corp is celebrated for its focus on upscale, trend-forward merchandise that doesn’t break the bank. The retail giant recently announced an innovative new initiative, its first chain-wide ‘Denim Take-Back’ Event aiming to promote circularity in fashion. It’s time for a closet refresh, customers have an entire week to purge closets of old denim relics. From the jean jacket that’s hanging on by a thread to the more patchwork than pants number, it’s time to let them go. The best part, condition doesn’t matter, Target will accept up to 5 denim items, helping to make space for fresh fits. From August 4th through 10th, customers are invited to exchange their previously worn denim in exchange for a Target Circle promo code for 20% off towards new denim styles. The code can then be used on any brand carried by the store, including Universal Thread, Wild Fable, Goodfellow & Co., and Levi’s. To ensure you qualify for the discount, purchases must be made by August 10th. Why does Target want your old denim? It can be recycled into new denim pieces! It’s a win-win, great for your closet and the planet. The good news comes just in time for back-to-school shopping with an effort to help ease consumer spending costs, reduce waste and keep denim out of landfills.

"Our new Denim Take Back Event is an easy way for families to give their used denim a new life. With back-to-school and college shopping top of mind for families, we're offering this 20% off Target Circle deal to make it even more affordable for our guests to refresh their denim wardrobes, while also doing our part to reduce waste and keep used denim out of landfills."

This isn't Target's first experience offering give-back events and incentives. The brand is riding high on the positive feedback from their car seat trade-in program, which has been a positive change since its launch in 2016. According to their latest announcement, Target has helped families declutter their garages and recycle over 2.6 million car seats - about 9.7 million pounds of plastic.

The denim take-back event is a great reason to upgrade your denim, not that an excuse is ever needed. It’s time to give your closet a new lease on life while giving the planet a helping hand. Clean out, cash in, and get ready for a back-to-school Target run that hits the bullseye with a fresh, sustainable look.
